Prof. Dr. med. Ilker Uçkay is a physician who graduated from the University of Zürich, Faculty of Medicine, in 1995. He obtained the Swiss specialist accreditation in Internal Medicine in 2001. After six years of clinical work in the fields of general surgery and internal medicine, he began his career in Infectious Diseases at Geneva University Hospitals in October 2002 and obtained the Swiss specialist accreditation in 2006. Besides daily consultations in almost all fields of Infectious Diseases and regular work in Infection Prevention, Dr. Uçkay is particularly interested in orthopaedic infections, especially in diabetic foot infections and associated research, since 2007.

Dr. Uçkay obtained his habilitation (Privat-Docent) at the University of Geneva in June 2012, and his Senior Lectureship in 2014. Since July 2018, he is the Head of Clinical Research in the Department of Orthopaedic Surgery at Balgrist University Hospital; and the Head of Infectiology and Infection Control. Since November 2019, he is Titular Professor at the University of Zurich.
