Director and Diabetologist

Dr Shigeo Kono is from Kyoto in Japan. He graduated from Shinsyu University School of Medicine in 1984 and Kyoto University Graduate School of Medicine in 1992. Since 2000, he has collaborated with doctors and nurses in the Western Pacific Region (WPR) to focus on diabetic foot problems. In 2006, he launched the annual “Kyoto Foot Meeting”.

Since 2007, Dr Kono is the director of the WHO-collaborating centre for diabetes, Kyoto Medical Centre. From 2010 he has been the chair of the taskforce of diabetic foot care project in IDF-WPR, which was succeeded to Asian Association for the Study of Diabetes (AASD) in 2016.
